Aggregate Industries recently partnered with the Lancashire County Council and trialed a new carbon-neutral asphalt replacement solution on Lancashire’s M65 slip road.
Furthermore, the milestone event was recently announced by the developer of the new product that was used.
The material used is called Foamix, and its most recent, improved version consists of a cold recycled bitumen-bound material.
This is produced by biogenic bitumen and negative carbon aggregates with the help of onsite mobile plants, while also containing a very high content of recycled asphalt.
Moreover, the mix is laid like normal asphalt, but in a cold process instead, further reducing the required energy input.
Finally, it is also worth mentioning that the successful trial of this material also marks a successful milestone in the National Highways’ goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions in construction by 2040.
