“The Line” is part of Saudi Arabia’s Neom project, and new aerial pictures show the progress made to its construction.
Furthermore, The Line is a city structure that will extend in a straight line measuring 170 km, while also being 500 m tall and 200 m wide.
The ambitious project is expected to cost about $1 trillion and house roughly 9 million people in a “city of the future”, while its construction is expected to take roughly 50 years.
This city will be carbon neutral and focus on people’s health and wellbeing instead of transportation and infrastructure.
More specifically, an end-to-end journey is expected to last about 20 minutes via high-speed rail, while a stream of water is planned to run across The Line.
However, controversy has sparked over the project about its feasibility and environmental impact.
Characteristically, Professor William Sutherland, director of research in Cambridge University's zoology department, explained that the massive structure, which will feature some wind turbines on top, is going to block an important migratory route for birds.
