The world’s most environmental friendly café is called Wheelys Café and even though it is actually a bike, its unique features transform it to a micro café serving 100% organic coffee, cold drinks and cookies. It has everything a barista needs (gas stove, sink, fridge, running water, workspace, water heater, storage) and what is more, the electric equipment is powered by a big solar panel and a windmill placed on the top of the trolley. And it is even greener than that, as it is equipped with an air purifier and a recycling waste bin for coffee residue (to be used as fertilizer). It also features a Wi-fi hotspot, a LCD screen and an audio system. Finally, this mobile café is equipped with electrical assist for pedaling up hills, in order for the barista to reach remote areas.
This fast growing café chain has become a movement, but it is still affordable, as it costs around $ 5000.
Swedish 27-year old Maria de la Croix, CEO of Wheelys Café, came up with this idea in 2014. Since then, a couple of models have been manufactured, and now Wheelys 4 (The Green Warrior as it is called) is about to be launched. Their Indiegogo campaign ended last April and was over 500% funded.
