Sandlake Road partially reopens to one lane Featured

Four months after heavy Oregon rains washed out a coastal road, Sandlake Road has finally reopened to one lane, marking a significant milestone in the recovery process. However, the journey towards restoration is still underway, with two permanent repair solutions currently under consideration.
The affected area spanned a 175-foot stretch of road. The initial incident occurred when a portion of the road slipped from the headlands, giving way and prompting urgent stabilization efforts.

GeoStabilization International's plan included the installation of self-drilling SuperNails and reinforcement with structural shotcrete along the estimated 175 linear feet. To address the instability of the road and the slope, they installed up to five rows of hollow bar soil nails, reaching lengths of up to 25 feet. Soil nails were used to secure a 20-foot high reinforced shotcrete slope facing, augmented with steel plates and hex nuts for added strength and stability. The final repair is scheduled within 2025.
