An urban planner in Singapore, a chief sustainability officer in San Diego, port engineers in Miami, Los Angeles, and Seattle, and real estate developers in New York are united by the Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines (WEDG®) Professionals Course.
The WEDG Professionals Course is designed by stakeholders in the Waterfront Alliance, a coalition of more than 1,100 organizations working together to bring about real change to New York and New Jersey’s waterways and shoreline. The Guidelines are a toolkit for reducing costs and risks associated with climate change and waterfront maintenance, preparing successful permit applications, and garnering community support throughout the process. WEDG won a National Planning Achievement Award for Best Practice, and has become the industry gold-standard for sustainable, ecological and resilient waterfront design. It is the basis of the WEDG Professionals Course, which is now available in a self-paced version.
“As cities begin to turn their eyes back to their waterfronts as both a resource and measure of protection against sea level rise, WEDG provides the framework needed to move us into the future together more thoughtfully and equitably.” – New York City Economic Development Corporation
